Maxim A. Suchkov, PhD, Senior Fellow at the Laboratory for International Trends Analysis and Associate Professor at the Department of International Research at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University).

Dr. Suchkov is editor of Al-Monitor’s Russia-Mideast coverage and an associate research fellow at the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).

He is also a non-resident expert at the Russian International Affairs Council and the Valdai Discussion Club.

A graduate of Pyatigorsk State University, he was a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at Georgetown University (2010-2011) and Visiting Fellow at New York University (2015). He is a member of two working groups on U.S.-Russia relations.

His research interests include Russian foreign policy, US-Russia relations, security developments in the Middle East and the post-Soviet space as well as the impact of technology on international relations. A columnist for the Russian business daily RBC, Dr. Suchkov is a frequent contributor to Russian and international media. Among others, his commentary and analysis appeared in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, the National Interest, and the American Interest.
